Watch Jasson Dominguez Homer For The First Time In New York Yankees Uniform

BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic—Jasson Dominguez only needed one at-bat to make a loud impression.

With rain pouring  Wednesday as the Yankees played the Giants in a Dominican instructional league game, Dominguez led off the game by pulling a home run to left field, his first home run as a Yankee, albeit an unofficial one at instructs.

After an inning and a half, the game ended due to rain, but the 16-year-old Dominican center fielder showed a flash of why the Yankees signed him on July 2 for $5.1 million, tied with Athletics shortstop Robert Puason for the largest bonus of the current 2019-20 signing period.

“I fouled off the first pitch,” Dominguez said. “When the pitcher was warming up, I saw he was kind of out of the zone, so I was there looking for one good pitch. In 2-1, I was looking for a changeup or a breaking ball, thinking that he might not throw me a fastball in a fastball count. The pitch was high, so I took it for a ball. In 3-1, he threw me a fastball inside. When I hit it, I knew the ball was going to leave the yard, but it was not my best contact. I didn’t get it. I didn’t square the ball up.”

It landed in the trees.
