The Upper Deck
Welcome to The Upper Deck, Baseball America’s daily look at the biggest stories around the game and some lighter fare.
HOMER ASSISTJose Ramirez hasn't needed any help of late. The Indians infielder has 13 extra-base hits in the past 10 games, including two, two-homer games. But on Sunday he got help, twice.
It has become apparent in recent months that Major League Baseball would like to see the Indians move away from the Indians' Chief Wahoo logo. But the Indians ownership doesn't seem to share that urgency.
“We’re not exactly aligned on its future,” Indians owner Paul Dolan told WAKR-AM. “But we will come to some understanding sometime relatively soon, meaning before the start of the 2018 season and maybe sooner than that.”
The Chief Wahoo logo has been in use since 1947, but MLB has held discussions with the Indians in an attempt to at least de-emphasize its use.
“There’s a lot of pressure on the national scene,” Dolan told the radio station. “We may live in a little bit of a bubble in terms of how we see Chief Wahoo and if you didn’t grow up here with it and you don’t have that emotional attachment and you look at it more objectively, you can see reason why some might offended by it. And the (commissioner Rob Manfred) is feeling that pressure."

Reds farmhand Blake Butler made history Sunday for high Class A Daytona by playing all nine positions, including getting the save in Daytona's 3-0 win over Florida (Braves). The 2015 15th-round pick from College of Charleston had played seven positions this year and has even pitched in seven games. He started Sunday's game at first, then moved around the infield the next three innings, then played left field in the fifth, center in the sixth and right in the seventh. After catching in the eighth, he took the mound in the ninth and got the final three outs around two singles.
Butler is the first FSL player to play nine positions in a game since Nate Orf (Brevard County/Brewers) did it on Aug. 31, 2014.
Cody Bellinger set a Dodgers’ record for homers by a rookie with his 36th Sunday, passing Mike Piazza, who hit 35 in 1993. Piazza won NL Rookie of the Year in '93 as voted by the Baseball Writers Association of America and Bellinger is a mortal lock to do the same.

Matt Holliday had been out of action since Aug. 4 because of a back injury and returned, appropriately, for the Labor Day holiday weekend. Make that Holliday weekend, as the Yankees DH homered both Saturday and Sunday in wins over the Red Sox.
