Perfect Game's First Ever U14 National Showcase kicks off
Perfect Game held their inaugural 14U National Showcase this weekend at Jet Blue Player Development in Ft. Myers, FL. Here's a look at some of the standout performers.
Note: Players who are a 2021 graduate or younger or are born on or after 5/1/2002 are age eligible to be selected for the 2017 14U PG Select Baseball Festival.
Erick Pena (Dominican Republic) - OF/6-3/180 lbs.
Pena doesn't look like your typical 14 year old, with broad, angular shoulders which taper down into a long, athletic frame. The lefty ran a 6.83 60-yard dash and topped out at 90 MPH from the outfield, tied for best at the event. Pena looks to follow in the footsteps of fellow DR prospects Estanli Castillo and Starlyn Castillo, both of whom stood out in last September's inaugural Perfect Game Select Festival.
Jordan Lawlar (Texas) - SS/6-0/150 lbs.
Lawlar checks plenty of boxes when it comes to his tools and overall skill set on the diamond. He's a long and rangy shortstop with good speed (6.78 60-yard). The righty has an easy swing, regularly finding the barrel in live action. In his second game Lawlar drove a double to left-center and later showed off his speed, legging out an infield hit.
Carlos Rodriguez (Miami) - RHP/5-11/166 lbs.
and Nicholas Regalado (Miami) - RHP/6-2/218 lbs. The summer circuit teammates entered the showcase as nationally ranked pitchers and did nothing change that view this weekend. Rodriguez showed a fastball up to 89 MPH while Regalado also hit the radar gun at 89 and both displayed quick arms and solid breaking balls. Both have already committed to the University of Miami and will provide the East Squad with two big arms at the 14U PG Select Baseball Festival over Labor Day Weekend.
