Opening Day Injury Report 2017 — College Baseball, MLB Draft, Prospects

The Opening Day injury report details all 433 players who opened the 2017 season on the minor league disabled list.

• All players listed here began the season on the seven-day DL except for those with an asterisk (*), which denotes the 60-day DL.

• Players are separated by minor league affiliate this year.

• Nearly two-thirds (65 percent) of players who opened the season on the DL are pitchers.

• The Pirates (one) and Royals (four) have so fewer players on the DL that their totals may be incomplete. The Reds (28), Rangers (26), Cubs (25), Yankees (23) and Dodgers (21) are in the opposite camp.

Shortstop Domingo Leyba injured his right shoulder diving for a ball and could miss up to two months.

Outfielder Dustin Peterson had surgery on his left hand early in spring training to remove the hook of his hamate bone.

Righthander Hunter Harvey is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery he had last July. Because of myriad injuries he hasn’t been at full strength since the 2014 season.

Outfielder Eloy Jimenez will be shut down for most of April after an MRI revealed a bone bruise in his right shoulder.

Righthander Mike Nikorak opened the season on the 60-day DL because he had Tommy John surgery on April 12. He will miss the entire season.

Speedy outfielder Zack Granite led the minors with 56 stolen bases last year, but this year he began the year with a strained right oblique.

Lefthander Stephen Gonsalves experienced minor soreness in his throwing shoulder in mid-March, but he’s throwing in camp and working toward a return, according to Twins correspondent Phil Miller.

Phil Miller also reports that Tyler Jay is dealing with shoulder soreness, so the Twins are being cautious.

Righthander James Kaprielian began the season on the disabled list after experiencing elbow pain. The 2015 first-rounder made just 10 starts last year because of same elbow.
