Northwest-Pioneer League All-Star Game Rosters

Cavan Biggio, the son of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, will start at second base for the Northwest League in its second annual Northwest/Pioneer League all-star game on Aug. 2 in Ogden, Utah.

Four players each from Boise (Rockies), Eugene (Cubs), Spokane (Rangers), Salem-Keizer (Giants) and Everett (Mariners) were selected to the game. Kyle Lewis, the 11th overall pick and the College Player of the Year, was selected but won’t play after tearing his ACL in a game earlier this month.

Other prominent members of the NWL all-stars include Boise’s Jacob Bosiokovic, the league leader in batting average (.344), slugging percentage (.536), OPS (.974), total bases (67) and doubles (12). He’s expected to start at first base, and Garrett Hampson, the Rockies’ third-rounder from Long Beach State, is expected to start at shortstop. Pacific’s Gio Brusa, a sixth-round pick of the Giants, will represent Salem-Keizer after posting an .860 OPS, and former Oklahoma State shortstop Donnie Walton, who has a .926 OPS, represents Everett. Jose Paulino, who leads the NWL in ERA, won’t play because he was promoted to low Class A South Bend.

Angels Midseason No. 1 prospect Jahmai Jones highlights the Pioneer League roster. The 18-year old outfielder and Angels second-round pick a year ago hit .322/.389/.463 with two homers, 15 RBI, 11 doubles and 11 stolen bases in 35 games for Orem.

Idaho Falls catcher Meibrys Viloria was rewarded for his remarkable season with an all-star spot as well. The Royals farmhand hit .457/.505/.793 with six homers, 36 RBI and 15 doubles in 29 games for the Chukars, showing the promise the Royals hoped for when they signed him out of Colombia for $460,000 as a 16-year old in 2013.

Reds No. 6 prospect Antonio Santillan will lead the pitching staff. The 19-year-old righthander is 1-0, 3.92 with 46 strikeouts and 16 walks for Billings in his second season after Cincinnati drafted him in the second round in 2015.

Eight 2016 draftees made the roster as well: Dodgers outfielder D.J. Peters (fourth round) from host Ogden; Rockies infielder Colton Welker (fourth) and righthander Kenny Oakley (31st) from Grand Junction; White Sox righthander Jake Elliott (15th), infielder Brady Conlan (24th) and outfielder Aaron Schnurbusch (28th) from Great Falls; and Diamondbacks catcher Ryan January (8th) and righthander Connor Grey (20th) from Missoula.
