NCAA Tournament Regionals Results At A Glance

After three days of regionals action, 10 teams have advanced to super regionals. Six spots remain going into the final day. Here’s how it all stands going into Monday.

Through to Super Regionals

Los Angeles Regional: UCLA

The No. 1 overall seed survived an upset bid from Loyola Marymount, the West Coast Conference Tournament champion. After losing Saturday night to the Lions, the Bruins fought back through the losers’ bracket and advanced to super regionals with a 6-3 victory on Monday. They’ll now face Michigan, one of the surprise super regional participants, this weekend with a trip to Omaha on the line.

Nashville Regional: Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt went 3-0 at home this weekend, collecting a win Friday against Ohio State, 8-2, and then beating a competitive Indiana State team twice by scores of 8-5 and 12-1. The Commodores will stay home next weekend to take on Duke.

Atlanta Regional: Auburn

After blowing out Coastal Carolina to begin its stay in Atlanta, and then walking off host Georgia Tech on Saturday night, Auburn punched its ticket to the Chapel Hill Super Regional with a 4-1 win Sunday against the Yellow Jackets. The Tigers have won back-to-back regionals for the first time in program history.

Athens Regional: Florida State

On a mission to send retiring head coach Mike Martin out with a bang, Florida State swept its way through the Athens Regional and made it look pretty easy. After smashing six home runs on the way to beating Florida Atlantic, 13-7, on Friday, the Seminoles beat host Georgia twice by a combined score of 22-4.

Fayetteville Regional: Arkansas

Arkansas is back in a super regional after a sweep of the Fayetteville Regional. After claiming an 11-5 win against Central Connecticut State to kick things off, the Razorbacks out-pitched Texas Christian on back-to-back nights. First, Isaiah Campbell one-upped TCU lefthander Nick Lodolo on Saturday, and then three pitchers combined to shut out the Horned Frogs on Sunday.

Starkville Regional: Mississippi State

With a 5-2 win against Miami, Mississippi State completed a perfect 3-0 weekend to move on to a home super regional next weekend against Stanford or Fresno State. After overcoming a scare from Southern to open the regional, Mississippi State captured decisive wins against Central Michigan and the Hurricanes to close it out.

Louisville Regional: Louisville

The Cardinals didn’t make it easy, and it wasn’t without controversy, but Louisville came through the losers’ bracket to advance to its sixth super regional in seven years. After giving up the lead in the ninth inning on Monday, Louisville bounced back in the bottom half of the inning and freshman Alex Binelas provided the walk-off single for a 4-3 victory. Louisville advanced despite losing Saturday’s winners’ bracket game against Illinois State and losing closer Michael McAvene to a controversial ejection in Sunday’s first game. McAvene’s ejection triggered an automatic four-game suspension, two games of which will carry over into super regionals.

Lubbock Regional: Texas Tech

Texas Tech is through to a super regional for the fourth time in six years after a 3-0 weekend at home. After running away from Army, 11-2, on Friday, the Red Raiders got it done with pitching in a pair of wins over Dallas Baptist by 3-2 and 3-0 scores. Next weekend, Texas Tech will be playing at home against either Oklahoma State or Connecticut, which will be decided on Monday.

Oklahoma City Regional: Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State received strong efforts on the mound all weekend long, holding opponents to eight runs in four games. That was especially true Monday in a 3-1 victory against a hot-hitting Connecticut. The Cowboys have been one of the hottest teams over the last month of the season and will now get the opportunity for revenge against Texas Tech, which swept them earlier this season.

Greenville Regional: East Carolina

Upset in the regional opener by fourth-seeded Quinnipiac, East Carolina had to fight through the losers’ bracket all weekend, a task made more difficult by rain that had the regional a game behind schedule the last three days. The Pirates swept upstart Campbell in a doubleheader Monday, outscoring the Camels by a combined score of 22-6 to advance to their second super regional in four years under coach Cliff Godwin.

Stanford Regional: Stanford

After back-to-back home regional losses the last two years, Stanford broke through this year, doing it the hard way and coming through the losers’ bracket after a Saturday loss to Fresno State. The Cardinal fended off the Bulldogs on Monday in a 9-7 victory that sent it to super regionals for the first time since 2014.

Oxford Regional: Mississippi

The Rebels cruised through their home regional with a 3-0 record to advance to a super regional for the first time since 2014, which also happens to be the last time Ole Miss made a trip to the College World Series. It was really never challenged at any point, as it claimed two blowout wins against Jacksonville State and a routine win against Clemson by a combined 41-7 score. Now, the Rebels move on to take on Arkansas next weekend in Fayetteville.

Baton Rouge Regional: Louisiana State

The Tigers got paired with a couple of potent offenses in Arizona State and Southern Mississippi for their regional, but they tamed those lineups on the way to going 3-0 and advancing to the super regional round. Coming to Baton Rouge this weekend will be Florida State.

Chapel Hill Regional: North Carolina

The Tar Heels went 3-0 in their home regional, pushing them to a super regional and just one step away from getting to Omaha in back-to-back seasons. The three wins came in three different varieties. UNC walked off UNC Wilmington, 7-6, on Friday, blew out Liberty, 16-1, on Saturday, and won a pitchers’ duel with Tennessee, 5-2, on Sunday.

Morgantown Regional: Duke

The Blue Devils finished a sweep of the Morgantown Regional with a 4-1 win against Texas A&M. After beating two blue-chip pitchers, A&M lefthander John Doxakis and West Virginia righthander Alek Manoah, on back-to-back days, Duke closed out the regional with a sterling pitching performance of its own. In their second super regional in as many years, the Blue Devils will move on to play Vanderbilt.

Corvallis Regional: Michigan

After a crushing loss Sunday night that saw it give up nine runs in the final two innings to Creighton to force a second regional final, Michigan on Monday bounced back in a big way. After a back-and-forth game early, the Wolverines pulled away from the Bluejays for a 17-6 victory. Michigan, which was the Big Ten favorite, advances to super regionals for the first time since 2007.
