Montgomery Biscuits' Sale Finalized
After being agreed to weeks ago, the sale of the Montgomery Biscuits to a group headed by Gary Green, Larry Botel, Lou DiBella, Peter Huff and Todd Parnell was finalized on Friday.
“On behalf of new ownership, we’re thrilled to take the reins of the Montgomery Biscuits from Sherrie Myers. Under Sherrie, the Biscuits have created a legacy that we will proudly build on,” DiBella said. “While we own the franchise, it really belongs to our fans and the Greater Montgomery Area. DiBella, currently the managing owner and chief executive officer of the Flying Squirrels, was the president and managing partner of the Connecticut Defenders before the franchise relocated to Richmond.
Green, Botel and DiBella also own the Eastern League’s Richmond Flying Squirrels, which they purchased in 2009. Green and Botel lead the ownership group that owns the Omaha Storm Chasers and also are part of the group that acquired Baseball America earlier this year.
To honor the ownership change, the Biscuits are planning a grand re-opening weekend beginning on June 22 that will include plenty of bells and whistles to begin the new era of Biscuits baseball.
“With Parney, Brendon Porter, and Biscuit veterans Scott Trible and Greg Rauch at the helm, we are going to make ourselves indispensable to the community, reinvigorate the ballpark experience for our fans, and facilitate and encourage more of our friends and neighbors to join us at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium,” DiBella said. ” We won’t only be your team during the season; we will be a part of your lives all twelve months of the year. You won’t just come to Riverwalk Stadium to cheer on the Biscuits. The ballpark will be a destination for entertainment, sports and community events all year round.”
