MLB To Hold Regional Scouting Events For 2021-Eligible Players

MLB released a memo to teams on Wednesday announcing details of a newly developed regional series that will give scouting departments additional looks at draft-eligible 2021 players in the wake of the shortened 2020 season.
With teams dealing with less information on players—particularly at the college level—than ever before, teams pushed for more opportunities to scout the class in an environment that would bring in the top players in the area.
The regional scouting series for 2020 will take place in October and cover five regions: California (San Bernardino, Calif.), Florida (Clearwater, Fla.), Southeast (Rome, Ga.), Texas (Round Rock, Texas) and Northwest (Tacoma, Wash.).
MLB is planning on doing more events in additional regions, with clubs in charge of selecting the players. Draft-eligible high school, junior college and college players will be invited to attend the events, while the league has partnered with Driveline Baseball to help run the events and collect data and video.
MLB is planning to gather data from Trackman, Rapsodo, force plate, K-Vest and Blast Motion data and video.

Each event will consist of 1-2 days of workouts and games that will provide looks at the 2021 class in a format that will allow multiple levels of players on the field at the same time.
Below are the current dates for each region:
California: 10/17
Florida: 10/24-10/25
Southeast: 10/24-10/25
Texas: 10/30-10/31
Northwest: 10/31-11/01
The events will be held at minor league stadiums to allow more scouts to attend. According to MLB, the health and safety protocols will be relaxed to allow for six scouts per club to attend each event.
