Here Are The Undrafted Free Agents In Major League Baseball in 2019

When the Twins selected Randy Dobnak’s contract from Triple-A Rochester on Thursday, the 24-year-old righthander joined a select group of players in Major League Baseball.

Dobnak becomes just the ninth undrafted free agent currently on a major league roster, according to data from MLB. Dobnak went undrafted out of Div. II Alderson Broaddus (W. Va). in 2017. He briefly played in the independent United States Baseball League before signing with the Twins as an undrafted free agent on Aug. 1 of that year.

Dobnak quickly climbed the Twins’ system and checked in as their No. 30 prospect at midseason.

Here are the players he joins as undrafted free agents currently on major league active rosters.

Mike Brosseau, 3B, Rays (Oakland University)
Mike Ford, 1B, Yankees (Princeton)
Joe Jimenez, RHP, Tigers (Puerto Rico Baseball Academy)
*Andrew Kittredge, RHP, Rays (Washington)
Robby Scott, LHP, D-backs (Florida State)
Josh Taylor, LHP, Red Sox (Georgia College)
*Kirby Yates, RHP, Padres (Yavapai JC)
*Jacob Waguespack, RHP, Blue Jays (Mississippi)

*Kittredge, Yates and Waguespack were all drafted out of high school but not college and entered pro ball as undrafted free agents. 

Two other undrafted free agents are currently on injured lists. Matt Shoemaker and Darren O’Day are on the 60-day IL for the Blue Jays and Braves, respectively.

Rockies third baseman Josh Fuentes, an undrafted free agent out of Missouri Baptist in 2014, made his major league debut earlier this season.
