Dave Heller Agrees To Purchase Lowell Spinners

Dave Heller, the president of Main Street Baseball, has confirmed to Baseball America that he has agreed to purchase the Lowell Spinners, the short-season New York-Penn League affiliate of the Red Sox.

The news was first reported by the Lowell Sun.

The deal is still awaiting approval of Minor League Baseball, but if it goes through the Spinners would become the fifth team in the Main Street stable. The firm also has majority ownership of the High Desert Mavericks (California League), Quad City River Bandits (Midwest League), Wilmington Blue Rocks (Carolina League) and Billings Mustangs (Pioneer League).

Drew Weber, the current Lowell owner, purchased the team in 1997 and has overseen the team’s boom times. Lowell has sold out every game at LeLacheur Park since 1999 and has finished in the top five in attendance in the NYPL every year since 2009. The Spinners won Baseball America’s Freitas Award in 2000 for best-run short-season franchise.
