College Top 100 MLB Draft Prospects 2018

(No. 2 MLB Draft college prospect Shane McClanahan)

Baseball America’s Top 100 College prospects for the 2018 draft was compiled by Teddy Cahill and Carlos Collazo in consultation with scouts and evaluators from major league clubs. It’s early in the draft process, so this order will change as more information emerges about the players and as the college season begins.

In September, as fall ball was getting underway around the country, Baseball America presented its first ranking of the top 50 college prospects in the 2018 draft class. Now, as fall ball has given way to final exams, we expand that list to the top 100 college prospects in the draft class.

The strength of the college class continues to be pitching and the top of the list is filled with high-end arms. Florida righthander Brady Singer tops the list, as he did going into the fall, and he remains the favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick in June. South Florida lefthander Shane McClanahan and Auburn righthander Casey Mize closely follow, and teams picking near the top of the draft will be closely evaluating the trio all spring.

While the top of the list is dominated by pitching, there are several intriguing position players that add to the depth of the draft class. Oregon State infielder Nick Madrigal has long been a favorite of scouts’, despite being listed at 5-foot-7, 160 pounds. South Alabama outfielder Travis Swaggerty, Missouri State shortstop Jeremy Eierman, Wichita State outfielder Greyson Jenista and Duke outfielder Griffin Conine all raised their profiles with impressive summers either with USA Baseball’s Collegiate National Team or in the Cape Cod League.

Georgia Tech catcher Joey Bart showed he has recovered from the injuries that limited him at the end of last season and during the summer to make a big move up the list and into first-round consideration with strong fall looks.

Florida, Florida State, Kentucky and Oregon State lead all schools with four players each on the top 100. In all, 60 colleges are represented. The Southeastern Conference leads all conferences with 26 players on the list. The Atlantic Coast Conference and the Pac-12 Conference follow with 18 and 15 players, respectively.
