Lakewood BlueClaws Announce Brand Refresh, Adopt Jersey Shore Moniker
It wouldn’t be a minor league offseason without a little rebranding.
Lakewood kicked things off on Wednesday by announcing they’d decided to change their moniker. Instead of the Lakewood BlueClaws, the team will now be known as the Jersey Shore BlueClaws. In doing so, it joins the list of teams who have adjusted their moniker to encompass an area rather than a specific city.
Other recent examples include the Down East Wood Ducks and the Rocket City Trash Pandas.
After weeks of teasing the change on social media, the team made the formal announcement on Wednesday in Asbury Park, N.J.
“This is truly a banner day for the BlueClaws and the Jersey Shore,” Shore Town Baseball managing partner Art Matin said in a press release. “Shore Town Baseball has added a mini golf course, boardwalk game area, and Biergarten to FirstEnergy Park over the last several seasons to help bring the ‘Shore feeling’ to the ballpark. The Jersey Shore BlueClaws is the natural next step. We couldn’t be more excited.”
Although the BlueClaws name will stick, the logos and uniforms will change. The team tapped minor league logo kingpins Brandiose for the new artwork, which was settled on after the designers toured the area with fans and team staff members.
“The BlueClaws have big plans for fans at the Jersey Shore,” Brandiose’s Jason Klein said in the release. “Our goal is to integrate Jersey Shore folklore in the BlueClaws brand, and to create the most legendary entertainment experience in the region.”
The logos center around a festive crab, who is seen both boogie boarding and surfing in various iterations of the artwork.
Additionally, the BlueClaws announced on Wednesday that they’d exercised an option on FirstEnergy Park with the Township of Lakewood that will keep them in the stadium an additional decade, through 2021.
“The BlueClaws and Township of Lakewood have been fantastic partners over the last two decades and we look forward to continuing that relationship many years into the future,” Matin said.
