BC Pushes Miami To Deciding Game

CORAL GABLES, Fla.—Miami is one game short of 50 wins—and could be one game from going home.

Boston College pushed the Hurricanes to the brink Saturday with a 5-3 win in the super regionals at Mark Light Field. The deciding game is set for noon Sunday, weather permitting. Junior righthander Mike King, drafted in the 12th round earlier in the day by the Marlins, gave up nine hits and three runs in six innings but hung tough against a strong Hurricanes squad. “Mike was great today against a lineup that is so good,” Boston College coach Mike Gambino said. “He made a mistake to (Miami catcher and first-round pick Zack) Collins. And Collins did what he does with mistakes—he put it off the garage (for a solo homer).” The win was the first ever in a super regional for Boston College. The Hurricanes, meanwhile, with a win Sunday would return to the College World Series for the second straight year. As for the draftees in the series, Collins, the 10th overall pick by the White Sox, is 3-for-7 with two homers and three walks; BC catcher Nick Sciortino—a 17th-round pick of the Red Sox—is 2-for-8, but also picked off Carl Chester at first base and later threw him out trying to steal second; Miami second baseman Johnny Ruiz, a 28th-round pick of the Astros, is 4-for-7 with two homers.
