Newsmakers from Thursday’s action:

Jordan Hicks, RHP, Cardinals. Hicks has one of the strongest arms in the Cardinals’ system, but that hasn’t helped him much in the AFL this month. Hicks allowed five hits and four runs in two innings, raising his AFL ERA to 11.42. Hicks allowed four runs in .2 innings in his previous outing, so he’s hit a rough stretch.

Ronald Acuna, OF, Braves. Acuna went 3-for-4 with four runs scored, a double, a walk and his second steal of the AFL season.

Austin Riley, 3B, Braves. Riley hit for the cycle yesterday, going 4-for-6. Riley now has five extra base hits in 26 at-bats in the AFL.

Bryce Brentz, OF, Red Sox. Brentz has never broken through at the big league level with the Red Sox, but his power continues to be unquestioned. He hit three home runs yesterday in a Mexican Pacific League game.

Max Pentecost, C, Blue Jays. Pentecost went 4-for-6 with a double and a home run yesterday. Perhaps more importantly Pentecost has caught in five of his six games in the AFL as he continues to make it back from multiple shoulder surgeries.
