Arizona Fall League Prospect Report — September 23, 2019

Shane Baz, RHP, Rays. Baz spun two scoreless innings for Salt River on Sunday. The righthander allowed just one walk and struck out five batters in his two frames of work. His first short stint out of the bullpen didn’t go so well, allowing six earned runs across 1 2/3 innings. This was a bounce-back performance for Baz, who has worked exclusively as a starter throughout his time in the minors.

Jarren Duran, OF, Red Sox. Duran patrolled center field for Peoria, collecting two hits in four at-bats. He had a base knock and a double while coming around to score once as well. While he did play second base in college and for 20 games last season with short-season Lowell, Duran profiles in center field long term with his plus speed and good jumps that he gets.

Daniel Lynch, LHP, Royals. Lynch tossed three scoreless innings for the Surprise Saguaros. He allowed three hits and no walks while striking out four batters along the way. After dealing with an arm injury that landed him on the injured list in June, Lynch returned and threw his best during the month of August, posting a 3.13 ERA across 23 innings.

Royce Lewis, 3B, Twins. Lewis drove in two runs for Salt Lake and also scored twice as he collected two hits in four at-bats. The third baseman blasted a two-run shot in the first inning and had a base knock in the second inning. Third base marks the second position other than shortstop that Lewis has played in the Arizona Fall League as he continues to work on his versatility. Lewis only played at the hot corner once during the regular season for Double-A Pensacola, which was a four-inning stint.
