Anthony Gose Hits 99 MPH Twice In Mound Debut

Converted outfielder Anthony Gose made his debut on the mound Monday for high Class A Lakeland and hit 99 mph twice, Lakeland manager Andrew Graham said.

Gose, 26, had spent the past seven weeks in extended spring training working on his transition to the mound after struggling as a hitter (.657 OPS) in nine pro seasons.

Gose faced five batters against Palm Beach (Cardinals), walking one, striking out one and allowing a run on a double by Cuban Randy Arozarena. Gose sat 97 mph with his fastball and had OK command with it, Graham said. He also threw two average curveballs.

It’s unclear when Gose will be back on a mound, but his debut was intriguing enough for a return appearance.
