2018 Position Rankings: First Base

 There certainly isn’t a Cody Bellinger in this year’s first base crop, or even maybe a Josh Bell. The best of this year’s first base prospects project as solid everyday players, with few All-Star ceilings to be found. Jake Bauers performed well as a 21-year-old at Triple-A but has power questions, while Yordan Alvarez shows promising Trackman numbers but performed poorly outside of low Class A.

Ryan McMahon is the only player expected to see significant time in the majors this year out of the first base crop, although Bobby Bradley could force his way with a big Triple-A showing. Brendan McKay, perhaps the most talented player in the group, ranked as high as he did on the Top 100 Prospects because of his potential on the mound, where he is largely expected to end up full-time.
