2017 State Draft Report: Nebraska
CROP RATING | |
Solid, not spectacular | |
Rating compares this year’s group to what a state typically produces, not to other states |
In most years, the state of Nebraska is lucky to get one player picked in the top 10 rounds. That’s unlikely to change this year, although the Cornhuskers do have a number of players who are likely to be drafted at some point.

Derek Burkamper, RHP, Nebraska
A 20th-round pick of the Red Sox out of high school, Burkamper has proven to be a reliable weekend starter for Nebraska and should get picked as a senior sign. He lacks much projection as a 6-foot-1, 200-pounder and he doesn’t have a plus pitch, but his 90-91 mph fastball and slider are both fringe-average offerings.
