2017 State Draft Report: Missouri

CROP RATING
updated_state_rating_five_star One for the books
Rating compares this year’s group to what a state typically produces, not to other states

Jon Harris is the only Missouri first-round pick this decade, but Jake Burger and Tanner Houck may double that count this year, making it a very solid year at the top of the draft for Missouri.

Bryce Montes de Oca, Jackson Rutledge and Division III standout Josh Fleming gives a little depth to the Missouri draft class as well.

Brian Young, RHP, Missouri State
The Bears’ senior closer just wrapped up a dominant season that saw him go 1-1, 1.53 with a .118 average against and 47 strikeouts in 29.1 innings.

Brett Bond, C, Missouri
Bond is a solid defender behind the plate, but he offers real power in the batter’s box as a switch hitter. He had somewhat of a breakout 2017 season, hitting a career-best .307/.385/.507 but scouts are skeptical of his true hitting ability after hitting .219 as a sophomore and two mediocre summers. He’s better from the right-handed side at the plate, with a more compact swing and was ranked the No. 7 prospect in the MINK League in 2015—the same year he homered off of A.J. Puk.

Elvis Peralta, 2B, Crowder (Mo.) JC
Peralta is an athletic, fast-twitch middle infielder with good actions defensively and is coming off of a breakout year at the plate. After homering just once and stealing four bases in 2016 in 20 games, Peralta homered 11 times and swiped 30 bags while leading all Division I NJCAA players with 260 at-bats. He was second on Crowder with a .381 average, but led the team in slugging (.658) and was fifth in Division I with 171 total bases.
