2017 State Draft Report: Kansas

CROP RATING
updated_state_rating_five_star Not up to par
Rating compares this year’s group to what a state typically produces, not to other states

The 2016 draft class was one of the best assemblagse of high school talent that the state of Kansas has ever seen thanks to Riley Pint, Joey Wentz and Nonie Williams. Life has gotten back to normal in Kansas this year as last year’s bumper crop of prep talent has been replaced by a fallow field.

3. Nolan Hoffman, RHP, Hutchinson (Kan.) CC
4. Stephen Villiness, RHP, Kansas
5. Sean Rackoski, RHP, Kansas
6. Jordan Floyd, LHP, Kansas State
7. Zebulon Vermillion, RHP, Shawnee Mission East HS, Prairie Village, Kan.

Nolan Hoffman, RHP, Hutchinson (Kan.) CC
Hoffman is Hutchinson (Kan.) CC’s all-time career strikeout leader. The Texas A&M signee has the potential to end up with a plus fastball.

Stephen Villiness, RHP, Kansas
As a low-slot righthander who can touch the upper 80s with his fastball and a track record of success, Villines is in the David Berg family of productive college reliever who is useful in pro ball because of his ability to tie righthanded hitters in knots. He’s Kansas all-time saves leader with 40 saves. Villines has a loose arm and plus control.

Sean Rackoski, RHP, Kansas
Rackoski had a disappointing season, but at his best the big 6-foot-7 righthander will flash an average or better fastball and slider.
