King is the latest top pitching prospect to come out of Div. II Cal Baptist, following in the footsteps of Trevor Oaks, Adam Hofacket and Tyson Miller. King was drafted in the 36th round of out high school by the Mets and was an all-Big 10 selection as a freshman at Nebraska, but transferred to CBU as a junior and became the Lancers' top starter. He went 7-1, 2.33, threw a no-hitter on March 23, and finished among the national Div. II leaders in strikeouts. Well-built at 6-foot-4, 189-pounds, King's fastball sits at 92-94 mph and he backs it up with an above-average spike curveball that is his putaway pitch. He also shows feel for a changeup and mixes in a slider. King's command wavers at times and lefthanders see him well, which prevents him from being a top-tier draft candidate. King should be one of the first Div. II players taken, although he missed the final two weeks of the season with forearm tightness that has raised concern.
