Tewes is one of a number of wildcards in this year's draft class as he will be sidelined until 2017 with an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery. It's possible that teams will prefer to see him head back to Wichita State and prove he's healthy, especially as he's missed most of the past two years with elbow injuries, but his stuff may entice a team to live with some risk. Pre-injury Tewes showed plenty of stuff--a 92-94 mph that touched 96 mph regularly and a potentially plus 85-87 mph slider. He also was throwing a better curveball with improved shape and he mixed in a fringy changeup. Even before the injury, Tewes was struggling to keep any of his offerings in the strike zone. Tewes had shown few control issues in the past--he had a 22-3 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his limited action in 2015--so there is reason to believe that he'll return to throwing strikes once he gets back on the mound. Tewes is a redshirt sophomore, so he could return to school and still have negotiating leverage in 2017.
