The bilingual Gorgas, who grew up in Puerto Rico, burst onto the scene at last summer's Tournament of Stars when he touched 93 mph and became a key member of Team USA's 18-and-under national team last summer, showing two-way aptitude as an infielder. Gorgas is athletic but faces a tough profile as a 5-foot-9 righthander, though some scouts compare his to Marcus Stroman for his size, quick arm and Northeast origins. After his velocity was down early in a frigid spring, Gorgas has been 89-92 mph, touching 94 with riding life through the zone and occasional armside run. Despite his size, he leverages his fastball downhill from a high three-quarters arm slot. He has two variations of a breaking ball, which can flash average, and shows feel for a changeup. His delivery has some effort and he tends to pitch up in the strike zone, but he is a strike thrower with baseball instincts. He is a strong competitor and could be an immediate contributor if he reaches campus at Connecticut.
