The Astros picked up Sanudo for 2010 supplemental first-round bust Mike Kvasnicka in a spring training trade with the Twins. Signed out of Mexico in 2011, Sanudo is a control specialist with a good body, but he sat at 86-89 mph and had not made it out of the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League. The Astros worked with his delivery to get his legs more involved and increased his extension and coaxed 3-4 mph of velocity out of him without impeding his already above-average control. Sanudo now sits 91-92 mph and touches 95. After a brief emergency stint in Double-A, he dominated the Rookie-level Appalachian and short-season New York-Penn leagues while working out of the bullpen. He struck out 41 in his final 27 innings, all scoreless, while allowing just five hits and one walk. Owing to his body control and repertoire, the Astros will consider moving Sanudo to the rotation as he moves up to low Class A Quad Cities in 2014.
