The scrappy, undersized Mardirosian was a strong performer at the Area Code Games last summer and also helped his stock in November at the Jesse Flores Memorial All-Star Game, where he had three hits. The more scouts saw him, the more they liked him because of his baseball instincts and toughness. His stock dropped a bit this spring, and he seems likely to wind up at UC Santa Barbara. The 5-foot-9, 164-pound Mardirosian has a short righthanded stroke and a knack for hitting line drives to all fields, and for working counts. He has enough bat speed to hit good fastballs, but he is primarily a singles hitter, and he needs to get stronger to handle pro ball. He ran a 6.5-second 60-yard dash time at the Southern California Invitational in February and a pair of 6.6 times at Tournament of Stars, making him a plus runner. He also has the defensive skill set to be a quality defender at second base,w here he has enough arm strength to make all of the necessary throws.
