Jan Hernandez

Hernandez is considered Puerto Rico's best prospect in a down year for the island, and he should be the first draft pick to come out of the Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy since it opened in August 2011. Hernandez shows a quick righthanded swing, though he hasn't performed well at Puerto Rico's big events this spring. Scouts say his hitting and power could be average. Hernandez plays shortstop now but will have to move to third base as a pro. Some scouts would like to see him move behind the plate, though he hasn't been open to that idea. While he has decent hands and an above-average arm, he's a below-average runner and should slow down as he continues to fill out. Hernandez has not committed to a college, so he's considered signable.
