Van Hoosier is a grinder. He always puts together quality at-bats and has a very good feel for hitting. Van Hoosier rarely swings and misses, and it's tough to sneak a fastball by him. He's not overly physical at 6 feet and 190 pounds, and profiles mostly as a singles hitter. He is a solid-average runner. Defensively, Van Hoosier is limited to second base. He doesn't have a lot of range and has below-average arm strength, so his bat will have to carry him through the minor leagues.
