Haas was one of the notable players in Texas A&M’s 13th-ranked transfer class entering the 2023 season. A high-profile high school prospect who ranked as the No. 247 player in the 2020 class, Haas made it to campus at Arizona State, where he hit well as a freshman in 2021 and struggled in an injury-plagued 2022 season before moving from the Pac-12 to the SEC. The 6-foot, 180-pound shortstop has a solid approach at the plate with impressive pure bat-to-ball skills, and hit .323/.447/.506 with 10 home runs, 14 doubles, a 12.5% strikeout rate and 15.8% walk rate this spring. He’s a below-average power hitter whose home runs went almost exclusively to the pull side. After playing third base with Arizona State, Haas has been the everyday shortstop for Texas A&M in 2023. He’s a reliable defender at the position with good instincts, actions and footwork. His arm might be a tick light for difficult plays in the hole or deep and up the middle, which could make him more of a second base profile in pro ball.
