  Savacool ranked as the No. 115 prospect out of high school in the 2020 draft class, but made it to campus at Maryland where he stepped into a full-time starting role as a freshman. After a solid, but unspectacular freshman campaign, Savacool took a step forward in 2022, when he posted a 2.93 ERA over 107.1 innings and was named to the All-Big Ten first team. Following the season, he pitched with Team USA’s trials roster and in 2023 he posted a 4.45 ERA in 89 innings with a 21.8% strikeout rate and 9.9% walk rate. A 6-foot-1, 210-pound righthander, Savacool is a solidly built pitcher who has a bit of violence and funk in his delivery and attacks with a lower, three-quarter arm slot. He throws a fastball in the low 90s that gets up to 96 mph, and has both a four-seam and sinking two-seam variation, and rounds out his pitch mix with a low-80s slider with slurvy shape, an upper-70s curveball that’s less of a swing-and-miss pitch and a mid-80s changeup. Savacool has long levers that lead to inconsistent release points and up-and-down control and after throwing his fastball for strikes more than 70% of the time in 2022 that number fell back to 63% in 2023. He’s a solid back-end starter profile who fits among the top five rounds.

  Savacool is the second-best prep pitcher in the northeast region behind righthander Alex Santos. Unlike Santos, who already has three above-average pitches, Savacool’s stuff is less loud but it is solid. Savacool pitches from a low three-quarters arm slot with some length in the back of his arm action. His release point is somewhat inconsistent and needs some ironing out, but he has good deception and extension in his delivery thanks in part to a large wingspan that’s bigger than his 6-foot-1 frame would suggest. As far as his pitch arsenal goes, he leads the way with a sinking fastball that sits around 88-93 mph. His sinker is matched with a slider in the 79-81 mph range that is a future above-average offering. Savacool also throws a curveball and a changeup, but both pitches are behind his first two options. At 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, there is less projection to Savacool’s body. Savacool is committed to Maryland, where he could carve out a prominent role and further increase his draft stock in three years if a team doesn’t sign him on his future potential now.
