Churchill is a well-seen and well-traveled pitcher who has been viewed as a pro prospect for years. He pitched at Santa Barbara (Calif.) JC, Arizona and eventually San Diego. As a fifth-year senior, he went 3-2, 4.17 with 57 strikeouts in 54 innings this spring. Churchill is a lefthanded reliever with modest stuff and a decent feel to pitch. His fastball sits in the upper-80s and tops out at 91 mph. His breaking ball and changeup are both fringe-average pitches and his control is fringy as well. Churchill survives by mixing his pitches and keeping hitters off balance, but his stuff will have to improve for him to be more than an organizational arm. His pedigree and the fact he's lefthanded give him a chance to be drafted as a senior sign.
