Youngest By League, 2018 Opening Day

SEE ALSO: The Padres are easily the youngest organization in the full season minors.

As we do every year, here is a look at the youngest players in every league on active rosters during the first weekend of the season. While this is a snapshot, it’s a useful one. Generally players who are considered capable of playing in a league years before their peers are prospects worth watching.

Probably the most surprising and amazing name on this list is Mariners shortstop Cesar Izturis Jr. Before this year, Izturis’ only pro experience was playing in the Dominican Summer League last season. But when injuries struck, the Mariners promoted Izturis from extended spring training to Triple-A, where he is serving as a backup. Izturis is more than two years younger than anyone else in the Pacific Coast League.
