With Half The CWS Field, SEC Makes Its Mark Again

The Southeastern Conference is sending four teams—Auburn, Arkansas, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt—to the College World Series in Omaha.

This is only the fourth time a conference has had four CWS reps this century—a mark the SEC reached in 2004 and 2015, while the Atlantic Coast Conference sent four teams to Omaha in 2006.

It also easily continues a very impressive streak for the SEC. This is the 27th consecutive season that there is at least one SEC representative in Omaha. The only other league with an active streak stretching longer than a decade is the ACC. Florida State and Louisville’s appearances ensures that the ACC has a CWS representative for the 14th consecutive season.

The SEC has averaged 2.3 teams making it to Omaha this century, which means 29 percent of all Omaha representatives have come from the SEC this century. The SEC and ACC combined have provided almost half of all teams that have headed to Omaha in the 21st century.

While the SEC and ACC have led the way in CWS representatives, the Pac-12 has matched the SEC trophy for trophy when it comes to CWS champions this century.
