VIDEO: Luis Robert Homers In White Sox Debut
When Luis Robert played on a stacked Cuban 18U national team as a 16-year-old in Mexico in 2014, he looked like a man among boys, even though most of his teammates were a year or two older than him. Now that he’s a 19-year-old outfielder in the Dominican Summer League, it’s even more unfair.
Robert, who signed with the White Sox for $26 million last month, homered today in his pro debut with the DSL White Sox. Robert has excellent bat speed and plus raw power, which he showed frequently leading up to his signing with several home runs against live pitching during his private workouts. It’s the first true game for Robert since November, when he left Cuba and was leading Serie Nacional at the time in both OBP and slugging with a .401/.526/.687 slash line and 12 home runs in 232 plate appearances.
