Top 100 MLB Prospects Updated For April 5, 2018
For minor league Opening Day, we updated our Top 100 Prospects ranking to reflect changes that have occurred since we released the list in January.
Recently-signed Rangers outfielder Julio Pablo Martinez joins the Top 100. The 22-year-old center fielder who starred in Cuba’s major league is now eligible for the Top 100 Prospects.
The adjusted rankings also reflect significant injuries for Rays righthander Brent Honeywell and Athletics lefthander A.J. Puk, both of whom will miss all of the 2018 season recovering from Tommy John surgery. There are also a couple of other rankings tweaks based on injuries and additional information gathered during spring training.
Baseball America will update its Top 100 Prospects ranking at the start of each month during the season, from April through August. In between those updates, we will also adjust the Top 100 to account for graduated prospects.
In fact, Reds outfielder Jesse Winker will likely leave this list soon, because he needs only one at-bat to exceed the career threshold of 130. When he does, we will remove Winker from the Top 100 Prospects and add a player to the back of the list.
As always, position players are eligible for the Top 100 Prospects if they have not exceeded 130 big league at-bats. Pitchers may not exceed 50 big league innings to be eligible, while relievers may not exceed 30 relief appearances.
