RBI World Series To Be Held In Cincinnati

Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities has announced Cincinnati as the host of its 24th annual RBI World Series.

The city of Cincinnati, as well as the Reds and numerous colleges in the area, will play host to the games in the tournament. The baseball portion of the tournament will be held at Xavier, the P&G Cincinnati MLB Youth Academy and Great American Ball Park—with each team guaranteed at least one game at Great American. Softball tournament games will take place at the P&G Cincinnati MLB Youth Academy and Mason High School, with the championship being held at Miami University. Both the Senior Division Baseball Championship and Softball Championship can be seen live on MLB.com.

MLB also unveiled the teams that will be advancing to Cincinnati.

Of the teams qualified for this year’s tournament, four teams—Baltimore, Chattanooga, Milwaukee and Passaic—are set to make a run in their inaugural World Series trip.

Each team in the tournament will wear a “JY” patch on their uniform to honor RBI founder John Young, who passed away in May of this year.

RBI is administered by Major League Baseball, and has many notable alumni. Among those alumni on MLB rosters in 2016: Michael Bourn (Diamondbacks), Carl Crawford (free agent), Coco Crisp (Athletics), Yovani Gallardo (Orioles), Chris Iannetta (Mariners),James Loney (Mets), Anthony Rendon (Nationals), CC Sabathia (Yankees), Hector Santiago (Angels), Steven Souza Jr. (Rays), Justin Upton (Tigers) and Chris Young (Red Sox).

The tournament runs from Aug. 3-16, and features numerous events for the teams in additional to playing ball. A Reds game and an essay contest ran by Jackie Robinson’s daughter Sharon are just a few of the events available to the participants.
