Prospect Pad Retrospective: Reds 3B/OF Nick Senzel

Back in 2017, Cincinnati Reds 3B/OF Nick Senzel joined the Baseball America Prospect Pad. In his first full season of minor league ball he had already ascended to Double-A  Pensacola. The second overall pick from the 2016 draft discussed the craziness of his first year in pro ball.

“That first year was definitely a whirlwind. This year hasn’t been as bad just because I was in one place for a while and now I’m probably going to be in this place for a while. Just trying to get a daily routine down so that stuff doesn’t go so fast. It’s gone good so far and I’m excited to finish out the year,” Senzel said.

It may have been a whirlwind for him, but he handled his business on the field. He hit a combined .305/.398/.514 between rookie ball and Single-A Dayton. The biggest adjustment for him was the amount of games played. In his Prospect Pad interview he discussed the grind of pro ball.

“Even last year just playing 70 games I thought that was a lot compared to college ball. This year I have almost played about 80 games and I still got a lot more. It’s a different animal. I’m just trying to myself just to prepare myself to be able to play every day and stay healthy,” Senzel said.

Unfortunately he was unable to stay healthy in 2018, only playing in 44 games before a finger injury ended his season. He has fought his way through the injury and was able to debut this year with the Reds.
