Prospect Pad: Daniel Johnson Wants To Be Versatile

When Daniel Johnson was traded to the Indians last offseason, Twitter is what told him he was headed from the Nationals to the Indians.

The Nationals sent Johnson to the Indians in last November’s Yan Gomes trade.

“You definitely don’t expect it… I was just at home, hanging out with friends, I found out on Twitter, friends were texting me like, are you getting traded? I’m like, no. And they start sending me screen shots, like, you just got traded. I’m like, oh. That’s when I got to call from the farm director, saying, “Yeah, we traded you, appreciate everything you did, but you’re going to Cleveland,” said Johnson when speaking on the trade.

When asked to describe himself as a player, Johnson emphasized his ability to do a lot of different things. This year he’s hit 14 home runs and stolen 10 bases.

“I’m a very versatile player. I can hit you with power, hit you on the bases with speed. I can go get the ball in the outfield, I can help you win with more than just one thing and be a good teammate,” Johnson said.
