NOTABLE INCLUSIONS

SS Andres Gimenez is a 40-man roster member who played at Double-A last year, so he was an obvious inclusion to the Mets’ player pool. LHPs Kevin Smith and David Peterson are not on the 40-man, but both were teammates with Gimenez last year at Double-A Binghamton and join him on the club’s 60-man player pool.

NOTABLE EXCLUSIONS

There Mets still have 15 open roster spaces available to use for their 60-man player pool, so they might still add prospects later. But in some ways, that makes it even more glaring how few prospects the Mets left at home. No SS Ronny Mauricio, their No. 1 prospect. No CF Pete Crow-Armstrong, their first-round pick this year, or 3B Brett Baty, their first-round pick in 2019. Mauricio and Baty were later added to the site. The Dodgers put fellow C Diego Cartaya on their roster, but the Mets left off C Francisco Alvarez, a fellow 2018 Venezuelan signing, 3B Mark Vientos, LHP Thomas Szapucki and RHP Josh Wolf all entered the season as Top 10 Prospects in the farm system but are not in the 60-man player pool.

PARTING THOUGHTS

As far as prospects, the Mets have the most boring player pool in the game. They have plenty of roster space available to change that, but if they knew they wanted to get a player like Mauricio extra reps to develop on the 60-man player pool this summer, why not just add him now, with all the space they have available instead of later? Still, this is a team that has postseason dreams, and their priority was to add players who can help them get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
