Minor League Transactions
Transactions involving minor league players for the period Sept. 30-Oct. 13. All transactions conveyed by Major League Baseball.
Notes about this installment:
• Any player listed as re-signed opted to re-up with his organization for 2018 rather than test the minor league free agent waters after the World Series.
• Any player who elected free agency earned that right following his removal from the 40-man roster, which requires that he clear outright waivers. Per Collective Bargaining Agreement article XX(D), this rule affects any player:
(1) Who has at least three years of major league service, or who qualified as a “Super Two” player, or
(2) Whose contract is assigned outright to a minor league club for the second time or any subsequent time in his career.
Four players here—Josh Collmenter, Kyle Kendrick, Edward Mujica and Ruben Tejada—qualify for free agency under CBA article XIX(A), which states simply that “the contract of a player with five or more years of major league service . . . shall not be assigned otherwise than to another major league club.”
