ROSTER (Editor’s Note: This post has been updated to include all moves through Aug. 30).
TOP PROSPECTS
The Royals have eight of their Top 10 prospects in their player pool, led by SS Bobby Witt Jr., the system’s top talent, and LHP Asa Lacy, the team’s first-rounder from 2020. The club has gotten contributions virtually all season from RHP Brady Singer and LHP Kris Bubic, two of its stable of high-pedigree arms. The only exclusions from the team’s Top 10 are SS Nick Loftin (the team’s second first-rounder in 2020) teenager Erick Pena, who has yet to make his official pro debut.
ADDITIONS AND SUBTRACTIONS
The Royals dealt OF Brett Phillips to the Rays for infield prospect Lucius Fox and swung a second deal to send reliever Trevor Rosenthal to the Padres for outfield prospect Edward Olivares and a player to be named later. Early in the season, the Royals also acquired OF Franchy Cordero and RHP Ronald Bolanos from the Padres in exchange for lefty reliever Tim Hill.
