Jose Ramirez, Jacob DeGrom Win Weekly Honors

Jose Ramirez, who hit .516/.545/1.065 to lead a surging Indians club into first place, and Mets righthander Jacob deGrom, who went 2-0 and hit his first big league homer, won AL and NL player of the week awards Monday.

Ramirez had nine runs scored, eight doubles, three home runs and seven RBIs as Cleveland won five in a row. Ramírez has had more than one hit in six consecutive games, the longest such streak by a Cleveland player since Kenny Lofton from June 17–22, 1994.

DeGrom, meanwhile, was 2-0 and allowed just one run in 17 innings, striking out 12 and walking six in two starts. The former Stetson shortstop also hit a home run Sunday in a win over the Nationals. deGrom ranks fourth in strikeouts (106) and third in strikeouts per nine innings (10.72) among qualified NL hurlers.
