High School Player Spotlight: Brady McConnell

Baseball America and Triple Crown Sports present our High School Player Spotlight. In this edition, Hudson Belinsky speaks with Brady McConnell.

Over the first couple weeks of this summer’s amateur showcase circuit, Brady McConnell has established himself as a top prospect. He’s a natural defender with advanced baseball instincts and an impressive internal clock, but it’s his bat that has stood out so far. He’s taken quality at-bats against some of the best pitcher’s in the nation and has risen to the occasion, showing a mature approach at the plate and natural bat speed and timing. McConnell is also a plus runner.

Following the Tournament of Stars, McConnell was invited to the 18-and-under national team trials. He is a Florida signee. McConnell plays at Merrit Island (Fla.) High. During his junior year, the Mustangs finished 20-8 after starting the season 15-1. The highest drafted player out of Merritt Island is current Pirates manager Clint Hurdle, who was the ninth overall pick in 1975.

In this video, McConnell discusses his baseball background, his college recruitment process, his strengths, and how he hopes to improve as a player.”
