Double-A Amarillo Picks Out Five Nickname Possibilities

As part of the Texas League shuffle that will take place next season, minor league baseball is making its way to Amarillo. The new club will become part of the Double-A Texas League, filling the spot vacated once San Antonio becomes a Triple-A team.

Now, that team needs a name. After a round of fan submissions, the team, in conjunction with design kingpin Brandiose, has whittled it down to five finalists. In keeping with the current minor league trend, the possibilities are more than a little bit out there.

Boot Scooters According to the description on the team’s site, the Boot Scooters combines Amarillo's genuine welcoming attitude with it's fun western heritage.

Bronc Busters Amarillo has deep cowboy roots, and the Bronc Busters name would honor the community's resilient, independent spirit.

JerkyCommemorating its famous cattle drive, there's only one region that can lay claim to the "Beef Capital of the World."

Long Haulers This name celebrates Amarillo's famous Route 66, open roads, wind-bent trees, and the fun of Minor League Baseball. That’s saying nothing of the many miles traveled by players and coaches each year.

Sod Poodles A pioneer's nickname for "Prairie Dogs," this fun-loving local animal is very aggressive in protecting its family and home.

Voting runs from May 30 through June 13 and can be done at the team’s website,
