College Top 25: May 4

Louisiana State remains No. 1 in the Baseball America College Top 25, presented by Louisville Slugger, for the third consecutive week.

California, Auburn and Houston all entered this week’s rankings. The Golden Bears and the Cougars–the preseason No. 3 team–both re-entered the Top 25, while the Tigers joined the poll for the first time this season after winning a road series against SEC foe South Carolina.

The top of the rankings, however, remain largely the same. The top six teams didn’t budge after winning weekends, but Illinois moved up a spot to No. 7 after sweeping then-No. 25 Ohio State on the road. The Illini have won 21 games in a row–the longest active streak in the country. They replaced Arizona State, who dropped to No. 9 after losing a series to Cal. Southern California also dropped–two spots to No. 15–after a 2-2 week.

Cal, Auburn and Houston replace Maryland (2-3), Memphis (3-2) and Ohio State (0-3), who each had losing weekends. Memphis’ weekend series loss to Cincinnati broke a four-way tie for first in the AAC. Houston is now tied atop the standings with East Carolina.

The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records indicated are through games of May 3 and do not include ties.
