FSU comes into the season ranked No. 9 in the country, largely thanks to optimism about what should be a very productive group of position players, led by third-year sophomore right fielder Robby Martin, third-year sophomore left fielder Elijah Cabell, fourth-year junior center fielder Reese Albert and third-year sophomore catcher Matheu Nelson.

There are more questions on the mound, where only fourth-year junior righthander Conor Grady returns as an experienced member of the weekend rotation. But that’s not to say that there shouldn’t be optimism, because the talent on hand in Tallahassee is substantial, including second-year freshman righthander Parker Messick, second-year freshman lefthander Bryce Hubbart and true freshman righthander Carson Montgomery, who Martin, Jr. says has been perhaps even better than advertised. If this unit clicks, FSU will very quickly be a title contender in the ACC.

Among the topics discussed on this episode are:

  • What it has been like for Martin, Jr. to get back on the field and prepare for a new season after the extended absence
  • Robby Martin‘s development from where he started to now, after he was named a preseason All-American
  • How Martin, Jr. sees his lineup shaping up with all of the talent at his staff’s disposal
  • Elijah Cabell‘s impressive batting practice rounds in the preseason, which has created a shortage of baseballs for FSU
  • Re-working the weekend rotation after the departures of C.J. Van Eyk and Shane Drohan
  • How a 12-week ACC schedule, including conference games in the second weekend of the season, changes early-season preparations
  • What stands out to Martin, Jr. about the depth around the ACC, which has the league in position to get more than 10 teams into the postseason
