Atlanta Braves

Righthander Bryse Wilson struck out seven over five shutout innings against the Marlins. Atlanta’s fourth-highest ranked pitching prospect got nine swinging strikes throughout the course of the outing. It was his first start of the season and the seven strikeouts were a career high. The win clinched the NL East for Atlanta.

Baltimore Orioles

Lefthander Keegan Akin whiffed six and walked none in his start against the Red Sox on Tuesday. He allowed four runs (two earned) in that span while scattering eight hits. He now has 31 strikeouts against nine walks over 22.2 innings in his rookie season.

Chicago Cubs

Adbert Alzolay struck out a career-high seven batters in four innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks in the team’s loss to the Pirates. The 25-year-old righty is 0-1, 3.31 with 21 strikeouts and 11 walks in 16.1 innings.

Chicago White Sox

—First-rounder Garrett Crochet pitched in his third outing just months after getting selected in the 2020 draft. The lefthander from Tennessee became the first drafted player to make the majors without playing in a minor league game since Mike Leake in 2010. Crochet struck out one in a scoreless inning in the team’s extra-inning loss to the Indians. He has allowed one hit and struck out three in three innings. The lefthander averaged an absurd 100.3 mph on 18 fastballs.

Nick Madrigal extended his hit streak to six games and collected his 10th RBI on a single in the 10th inning. The 23-year-old second baseman is up to 31 hits in 25 games.

Luis Robert went hitless for the seventh consecutive game, dropping his average to .225 on the season. The 23-year-old center fielder followed his August AL Rookie of the Month campaign with just six hits in 66 at-bats in September.

Detroit Tigers

Tarik Skubal allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six in 3.2 innings in the team’s extra-inning loss to the Twins. The Tigers No. 4 prospect is 1-3, 6.00 with 31 strikeouts and 10 walks in 27 innings.

Daz Cameron collected two hits, both doubles, in four at-bats and scored once. The 23-year-old outfielder and son of all-star Mike Cameron has six hits in 39 at-bats.

Willi Castro turned in another multi-hit performance, picking up two hits in four at-bats, scoring once and driving in a run. Castro is up to 38 hits in 113 at-bats (.336) to go along with five home runs and 20 RBIs.

Kansas City Royals

Brady Singer had his shortest start as a big leaguer, getting roughed up for three runs on three hits and five walks in three innings while striking out four. The 24-year-old righthander is 3-5, 4.40 with 56 strikeouts and 23 walks in 57.1 innings.

Los Angeles Angels

Jared Walsh extended his hit streak to 14 games with a single in the team’s win over the Padres. Walsh has posted a .309/.337/.679 slash line in 28 games this season.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Dustin May turned in a solid start in the team’s win over the A’s. The Dodgers No. 2 prospect struck out five in five innings while allowing two runs on three hits and three walks. May lowered his ERA to 2.77 and has 39 strikeouts and 14 walks in 52 innings.

Milwaukee Brewers

Devin Williams struck out five batters in two scoreless innings, allowing no hits and walking one. The 26-year-old righthander induced five swings and misses on his dominant changeup and two on his fastball.

Pittsburgh Pirates

—No. 2 prospect Ke’Bryan Hayes crushed another hit in the team’s win over the Cubs, knocking a single off the bat at 108.1 mph, good for the fifth-hardest hit ball of his big league career. Hayes is boasting an impressive .323/.397/.585 slash line in 65 at-bats.

San Francisco Giants

Joey Bart doubled twice and drove in his sixth run of the season against the Rockies. The 23-year-old catcher has 21 hits in 86 at-bats since his promotion to the big leagues on Aug. 20.

St. Louis Cardinals

Dylan Carlson collected his first three-hit game as a big leaguer, coming a home run shy of the cycle, driving in two runs and scoring twice in the team’s win over the Royals. Since he was promoted back to the majors on Sept. 18, Carlson has six RBIs in six games.

Texas Rangers

Sam Huff extended his hit streak to a modest three games with a 2-for-4 showing in the team’s loss to the Diamondbacks.

Toronto Blue Jays

—Catcher Alejandro Kirk, fresh off producing a four-hit night and jumping into Baseball America’s Top 100, collected a single in three trips in his team’s loss to the Yankees. The single, off of a curveball from Gerrit Cole, produced an exit velocity of 97.2 mph.

Washington Nationals

Yadiel Hernandez, a 32-year-old rookie, picked a fantastic time for his first career home run. In the eighth inning of the nightcap of the Nationals’ doubleheader with the Phillies, Hernandez smashed a two-run blast off of Brandon Workman to give his team a comeback win and a sweep, thus keeping its meager postseason hopes alive.

—Righthander Paolo Espino made his big league debut in the second game of the Nats’ doubleheader with the Phillies. He spun four innings of three-run ball with four strikeouts and no walks. His first big league strikeout was against Alec Bohm, who waved at a slow, downer curveball.
