Baseball America Prospect Report — Sept. 16, 2020

Arizona Diamondbacks

—Top prospect Daulton Varsho connected on his third home run, a solo shot in the second inning. The 24-year-old has two home runs and three RBIs in his last five games.

—No. 18 prospect Pavin Smith collected his first big league RBI on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. The 24-year-old first baseman has started his career with three hits in his first 11 at-bats.

Atlanta Braves

Huascar Ynoa looked sharp against the Orioles, striking out five and allowing just two hits in four innings of work before leaving the game with an injury. The 22-year-old righthander had the best performance of his big league career, averaging 96.2 mph on his fastball and getting nine swings and misses on his sharp mid-80s slider.

Boston Red Sox

—No. 13 prospect Tanner Houck looked plenty comfortable in his first big league start, striking out seven and allowing two hits and three walks over five scoreless innings to pick up his first career win. The 24-year-old righthander was recalled on Tuesday after spending time at the team’s alternate site.

 

 

 

—No. 2 prospect Bobby Dalbec extended his hit streak to eight games with a 1-for-4 showing. The 25-year-old third baseman is hitting .277 with six home runs in just 47 at-bats to go along with 10 RBIs. His 24 strikeouts are the only blemish on his resume.

Chicago White Sox

—No. 10 prospect Dane Dunning pitched a career-high seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks and striking out seven to earn his second win. The 25-year-old righthander has impressed in five starts, with 28 strikeouts and just nine walks in 27 innings.

Luis Robert stole two bases and drove in two runs while collecting a hit in four at-bats. The 23-year-old outfielder is hitting .255 and leads all rookies in home runs (11), RBIs (30) and stolen bases (eight).

Cincinnati Reds

Shogo Akiyama collected two hits in four at-bats to raise his average to .237. Despite not hitting at a high clip, the 32-year-old outfielder has stilled posted a solid on-base percentage (.351).

Detroit Tigers

—No. 13 prospect Willi Castro turned in another strong performance, with three hits in five at-bats—including a solo home run in the sixth inning. The 23-year-old has been one of the best rookies in the game, posting a .352 average with four home runs, 14 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

 

 

 

Houston Astros

Jose Urquidy went seven innings for the second time in his big league career, striking out seven and allowing a run on three hits to earn his first win of the season. The 25-year-old righthander has struck out 10 and walked six in 16.2 innings of five-run ball.  

Los Angeles Angels

—Another game, another home run for Jared Walsh. The 27-year-old has been on fire of late, with five home runs and 14 RBIs in his last seven games. On Tuesday night, he went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a solo home run, two runs and three RBIs. Walsh is hitting .315 with six homers and 16 RBIs on the year.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Edwin Rios hit another home run, a solo shot in the fifth inning. The 26-year-old corner infielder has four home runs and 10 RBIs in just 51 at-bats to go with a .510 slugging percentage.

Tony Gonsolin earned his first win of the season, pitching seven innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and striking out two.

New York Yankees

—No. 3 prospect Deivi Garcia made his second consecutive seven-inning start, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks and striking out six to earn his second career win. The 21-year-old righthander has struck out 24 and walked just four in 24.2 innings.

Philadelphia Phillies

—No. 2 prospect Alec Bohm, who started at first base, had a 1-for-4 showing. The 24-year-old has collected a hit in seven of his last eight games and is hitting .316 with three home runs and 19 RBIs.

—No. 19 prospect JoJo Romero pitched two innings for the first time in his big league career, allowing a hit, hitting a batter and striking out two. The 24-year-old lefthander has struck out 10 and walked one in 9.1 innings of three-run ball. 

 

Pittsburgh Pirates

—No. 2 prospect Ke’Bryan Hayes collected another hit in four at-bats while scoring once. The 23-year-old third baseman has crushed the ball since his promotion to the big leagues on Sept. 1, posting a .310 average with two home runs, five RBIs and seven runs scored in 42 at-bats.

Washington Nationals

—Top prospect Carter Kieboom collected his third multi-hit game of the season, singling twice and walking once in three at-bats. The 23-year-old has struggled mightily of late, with four hits in his last 21 at-bats, but has tallied hits in consecutive games for the first time since Sept. 5-6.

—No. 2 prospect Luis Garcia added two more hits, his eighth multi-hit game, to an impressive rookie campaign. The 20-year-old is hitting .286 with a home run and eight RBIs in 91 at-bats.
