Arizona Diamondbacks
—Daulton Varsho crushed an RBI triple at 97.1 mph off the bat and later scored in the team’s win over the Dodgers. The 24-year-old has five RBIs and five extra-base hits.
Atlanta Braves
—Righthander Huascar Ynoa got into his first action since Sept. 4 and managed to limit the Nationals to just one run over three innings despite walking four and allowing two hits. He topped at 97 mph with his fastball and got three swings and misses, one to finish a strikeout of Yan Gomes.
Boston Red Sox
— Bobby Dalbec played exactly to script—big power, big swing and miss—on Thursday, when he swatted his fifth home run in as many games (including one in each game of a doubleheader on Tuesday in Philadelphia) and sixth long ball overall. He is averaging an exit velocity of 105.5 mph on his home runs.
Chicago Cubs
—Nico Hoerner collected a double and drove in three runs for the first time this season in the team’s win over the Reds. The 23-year-old second baseman has collected hits in five of his last six games since ending a five-game hitless skid.
Detroit Tigers
—No. 4 prospect Tarik Skubal struggled in his fifth career start, allowing six runs—the most of his big league career—on three hits and four walks and striking out three in two innings. The 23-year-old lefthander, who was tagged with his second loss, has struck out 17 and walked eight in 17.1 innings.
Houston Astros
—No. 2 prospect Jose Urquidy made his second start of the season, pitching six innings of two-run ball, allowing two hits and three walks and striking out one. The 25-year-old righthander averaged 92.7 mph on his four-seamer to get six swings and misses. Urquidy mixed in his plus changeup, average slider and fringe-average curveball for three additional swings and misses.
Kansas City Royals
—Brady Singer took a no hitter into the eighth inning before a two-out single by Austin Hedges broke up the bid, but he was nonetheless brilliant in the longest start of his professional career. The 24-year-old righthander walked two, allowed one hit and struck out eight in eight innings, while relying only on his fastball and slider. Singer got 18 swings and misses from the pair and threw just two changeups all day. Singer moved to 2-4, 4.66 on the year with 44 strikeouts and 17 walks in 48.1 innings.
—Edward Olivares continues to hit the ball well in a Royals uniform. The 24-year-old outfielder hit his third home run of the season and singled in five at-bats. Olivares is hitting .277 with nine RBIs and nine runs.
Los Angeles Angels
—Jared Walsh hit his third home run of the season, a three-run shot in the third inning of the team’s win over the Rangers. The 27-year-old first baseman, who is hitting .229 with eight RBIs, added his first career triple in the fourth inning.
Los Angeles Dodgers
—The Dodgers received a scare on Thursday when Dustin May left his start after one inning. The 23-year-old righthander was hit by a comebacker on the left foot against the first batter he faced. According to Baseball America correspondent Bill Plunkett, May will receive additional testing Friday after an X-ray was deemed “inconclusive.”
Philadelphia Phillies
—Alec Bohm just continues to rake. The Phillies’ top position player prospect collected two more hits on Thursday night, bringing his season slash line to .303/.360/.427 through 25 games. One of Thursday’s hits—a single off of Marlins starter Sandy Alcantara—registered at 108.7 mph off the bat, the highest exit velocity of his career.
San Diego Padres
—No. 7 prospect Adrian Morejon made his fifth appearance in the team’s win over the Giants, striking out three and allowing two hits in 1.2 innings to lower his ERA to 2.53 to go along with 14 strikeouts and two walks in 10.2 innings. The 21-year-old lefthander averaged 96.2 mph on his fastball while mixing in his plus changeup, plus curveball and knuckle-change to induce six swings and misses.
—No. 30 prospect Jorge Oña got his first career hit and first career home run on one swing against the Giants. Facing lefthander Drew Smyly, Oña took a first-pitch curveball on the outer half and pulled it into the second deck in left field for a solo shot. The blast traveled an estimated 414 feet and was his first hit after an 0-for-3 start to his career.
Texas Rangers
—No. 19 prospect Anderson Tejeda tripled for the first time in his big league career, crushing the ball to center field at 103.4 mph to score a run. The 22-year-old shortstop, who also singled and stole a base, is hitting .259 with two home runs, five RBIs and three stolen bases in 27 at-bats.
