Augusta GreenJackets Announce New Logo

ust like last year, the minor league baseball offseason is quickly turning into a fashion show. Fueled by the lucrative appeal of making new merchandise available just in time for the holiday season, teams have begun changing their names, logos, or both.

The latest team to jump on board is the Augusta GreenJackets, who will head into their new park this season with a fresh set of logos on their chests and atop their heads. Much like it did for a series of teams last winter, Brandiose partnered with the GreenJackets to produce its new artwork.

The results were threefold. The most prominent new features a green, angry-looking yellow jacket (it’s probably angry because it’s green) wearing a Fred Couples-style golf cap in homage to The Masters golf tournament, played every year at nearby Augusta National Golf Club.

The secondary and tertiary logos are less aggressive–one features an “A” with wings protruding from the center bar and the other, to be worn across the chest of jerseys, shows that same “A” incorporated into the word “Jackets.”

Side note: Is it weird that Augusta’s uniforms will now have shirts labeled with the word “jackets?” It seems weird to me.

“We went way down the road on a couple of different looks but decided that we need the bug,” GreenJackets president Jeff Eiseman said in statement. “It all came back to the bug.”

Augusta was the third team this offseason to unveil new logos. The short-season Hudson Valley Renegades updated their logos on Tuesday with the help of Studio Simon, which designed the team’s original logos.

“We are very excited to introduce this new look to Renegades fans and partners all throughout the Hudson Valley,” Renegades general manager Eben Yager said in a statement. “The new look includes our present team colors of Dutchess blue, black, and gray, and provides a few new logos in the set as well as revised versions of those that our fans have been familiar with throughout the years.”

The Sacramento River Cats, too, made a small change. The team didn’t change its primary logos, but it added a new cap to its merchandise stable. The new headwear features a baseball flying out of Sacramento’s Tower Bridge, and will be worn as an alternate during the 2018 season.

The next change will happen on Friday, when the Gwinnett club officially changes its name–and logos, obviously–to one of six finalists: The Buttons, Lamb Chops, Big Mouths, Gobblers, Hush Puppies or Sweet Teas.
