All 30 Teams Employment Plans For Baseball Operations Employees

As Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Player’s Association discuss the parameters of a return to play, many baseball operations employees around the game await news of their job status once June arrives.

Scouts, coaches, player development staff, front office officials and other non-player employees have largely had their employment determined month-to-month since MLB and the minor leagues shut down March 12 in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Shortly after the shutdown, Commissioner Rob Manfred reached an understanding with all 30 clubs that they would continue paying their baseball operations employees through April 30.

The Commissioner suspended Uniform Employee Contracts effective May 1, allowing teams to furlough or lay off employees beginning on that date, but 29 of the 30 teams extended their commitments to pay their employees at least through the end of the month.

Now, as that commitment nears its end date, teams have begun informing non-player personnel of their upcoming plans. Some teams have committed to continue paying their employees in full, others have announced pay cuts to help avoid furloughs and others have told staffers that furloughs will be implemented.

Here are all 30 teams’ plans for their baseball operations staff beginning June 1, based on media reports and club responses to inquiries made by Baseball America.
